It is a 4 hour drive from Melbourne. The Island is accessible by foot or bicycle (for free) or by car (for a small fee) on the regular ferry service from Paynesville. One of the best Island features is its wildlife, which includes koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, kookaburras and many other birds.. It is possible to see dolphins playing in the McMillan Strait, and a seal or two.

The Ferry Park has toilets, BBQs, picnic tables, children’s playground, a dry creek bed garden and visitor information, or you can wander along the lakeside boardwalk and Koala Trail, and enjoy swimming at the safe swimming beaches around the Island.
